Meet our Surgeon
Shawn J. Soon, MD, FRCSC
I believe a good patient-physician relationship is based on mutual trust, with the cornerstones of expert medical knowledge, honest communication, and shared decision-making. My practice philosophy is to prevent disease, and dysfunction, when possible and to provide the best, up-to-date treatment as medical knowledge evolves.
I graduated from the University of Toronto, St-George campus, with an Honours Bachelor of Science degree with High Distinction, and received my Doctor of Medicine degree from McMaster University. I then completed a residency in Urology at the University of Ottawa, followed by a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic urologic surgery from Institut Mutualiste Montsouris in Paris, France. This one-year fellowship provided experience in advanced laparoscopic techniques in urologic oncology such as laparoscopic radical prostatectomy and laparoscopic partial nephrectomy.
I joined the Department of Surgery at the Scarborough Health Network in 2007. In addition, I am a Lecturer at the University of Toronto, in the Department of Surgery, where I participate in the education of future surgeons. I also continue to develop partnerships with other physicians in order to provide the best multidisciplinary care for my patients, and to provide a superior patient experience.
