Scrotal Cysts (Lumps and Bumps)
What is a scrotal lump/bump?
A scrotal cyst is a lump on the skin of the scrotum. The scrotum forms part of the male reproductive system, and is a bag of skin that hangs below the penis. If the lump is on the scrotal skin, it is most likely an epidermoid cyst, and not dangerous or contagious. Epidermoid cysts are unsightly, and many men will choose aesthetic removal of the cyst. Dr. Soon can help with this aesthetic procedure. If the lump is inside the scrotum (and not on the skin), a scrotal ultrasound should be done urgently to determine the precise location of the testicular mass.
Our approach to removing scrotal lumps/bumps
To remove the cyst, the patient requires an outpatient procedure, done under local anesthetic. The cyst is surgically removed and the skin is sutured using dissolvable stitches. The surgery can take anywhere from 30-60 minutes, or longer depending on the number and size of cysts to be removed. Most patients are able to return to their normal activity after 24-48 hours.
